For all the years that Valley View Hospital’s Teen Zone has been an addition to their Safety Fair, PREP interns have lead participants through educational games and activities to promote teen pregnancy and STD prevention education. This also allows them a chance to participate in the other Teen Zone activities that can focus on subjects affecting teens such as drug and alcohol awareness, distracted driving and safe choices.
Interns and the Garfield County PREP staff have spent one Saturday morning each September enjoying beautiful weather and fun activities while engaging with our community at the Roaring Fork Valley’s largest safety fair. Families can enjoy the latest in health and safety information in a variety of ways! From interactive activities to demonstrations and giveaways, Valley View does an excellent job of helping to build awareness and educate our community on a wide range of prevention topics.
Interns work during the summer to create games and activities that will engage attendees while educating them at the same time. They learn how to modify activities to meet the age and knowledge level of those who stop by to see what we’re all about so that the information they are sharing is age appropriate and culturally sensitive. They have come to understand that you have to proceed with caution to dispel myths, gain trust and keep the conversations and information-sharing going.
