Green StrawberryGlenwood Springs’ oldest running festival is a local’s favorite. Who doesn’t love a parade followed by free strawberry sundaes? Garfield County PREP loves Strawberry Days because it gives a fun way to educate our interns on a healthy life skill they can carry with them throughout their young and old adult lives. That skill is recycling and composting!

PREP interns sign up for shifts throughout the festival event where they work as Green Strawberries helping to educate the community on proper refuse handling. They are also encouraged because of the contribution they are making towards the zero footprint goal of the festival organizers. Our partnership allows PREP to share the impact with real-life numbers of the tons of garbage they save from going to a landfill. It’s empowering to know that a few hours work can make a sizable difference.

You might think that they would only sign up once for a job where they’re sorting through garbage. Wrong! Interns take multiple shifts and have even signed up in following years to do it again. No, it’s not a glamorous job, but you do

  • Make a real impact on the environment
  • Get the chance to tell adults where to put it (garbage, that is)
  • Get a free t-shirt, to boot!

Afterwards, they enjoy meeting up with friends and experiencing all the fun of the event.
